Flipd works on your device first. This page explains what stays there, what Flipd stores when you choose to share a PDF, and what the website itself measures.

PDFs you open

When you open a PDF, your browser reads and displays it. The PDF isn’t uploaded and Flipd doesn’t keep it. The same is true when you create a video: it’s made on your device and saved to your device.

If you choose Open sample PDF, your browser downloads Flipd’s sample from Flipd. Opening it doesn’t upload anything or create a share.

PDFs you share

Nothing is uploaded until you choose Share and confirm Upload and share. Your browser then sends Flipd:

  • a copy of the PDF, exactly as it is on your device;
  • its filename and number of pages;
  • a small image of its first page, made by your browser, used as the link preview when the link is pasted into apps that show one.

Flipd stores the copy on its hosting provider’s storage, together with this information about the shared copy:

  • the filename, file size and page count, and the first-page preview image;
  • when it was shared and when it expires, and whether its one extension has been used;
  • a random link identifier and a separate random owner key;
  • an approximate count of how often the shared flipbook was opened. It counts openings, not who opened it.

Anyone with the link can open the PDF, see its page count, size and dates, and download it. When you create a share, the document filename may be visible to anyone with the link. Flipd does not place it in search metadata or social-preview metadata. Shared copies aren’t end-to-end encrypted, and the link isn’t a password. Please don’t use Flipd to share documents that must stay confidential.

Information kept in your browser

Flipd uses your browser’s local storage, never cookies of its own, to remember:

  • Links you shared from this browser, for Shared from this device: the link and embed address, the filename, a fingerprint of the file (its name, size and last-modified time), dates, last known status and whether the extension is still available.
  • The owner key for each of those links. It’s sent only to Flipd’s server, to check, extend or delete that shared copy.
  • Preferences: light or dark mode, page-turn sound, dismissed hints, and your last video choices (shape, quality and sound).

None of this includes PDF pages, text or images. It stays in this browser until you forget a link, clear your browser’s data, or the browser removes it.

Analytics and cookies

Flipd uses Google Analytics 4, delivered through Cloudflare’s Google Tag Gateway, to understand how the website is used: for example, how many people visit, where they come from and which pages they use. This covers the landing and information pages and shared flipbook and embed pages. Tag Gateway loads the Google tag through Flipd’s own domain. To measure visits, Google and Cloudflare may process browser, device, request, cookie and usage information, such as the address and title of the page, the referring site, your browser, device type, screen size, language and approximate region. They may also process identifiers that recognise a returning browser.

When someone opens a shared flipbook or embed, its temporary share address may be included in the page-location information sent to Google Analytics. That address is unlisted and kept out of search engines, but anyone who has it can open the share while it remains available. Shared pages use a generic title, so filenames aren’t sent as page titles. Flipd doesn’t deliberately send PDF contents, locally opened files, videos you create, owner keys or other share-management details to Google Analytics; owner keys travel only to Flipd’s own server. Flipd doesn’t use analytics for advertising or remarketing, and doesn’t send user IDs or build cross-site profiles. Flipd has no accounts.

Google Analytics and Cloudflare use cookies to recognise a returning browser, such as _ga and cf_zaraz_client. They’re set for the whole akkiipc.com domain, so they may also apply to other akkiipc.com sites. Separately, Cloudflare may set a cf_clearance security cookie when your browser needs to pass a security check; not every visitor receives it. Flipd’s own app sets no cookies. Cloudflare also processes every request to Flipd for security, delivery and aggregate operational purposes.

You can block or clear cookies, or use a browser setting or extension that blocks analytics; the viewer keeps working.

Hosting, security and request logs

Flipd runs on Cloudflare. Like any website, every request reaches Cloudflare with your IP address, browser details and the page or file requested. Cloudflare uses this to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, and Flipd’s server logs can record requests for troubleshooting. These records are kept for limited periods under the hosting provider’s settings.

How long shared copies are kept

  • A shared link stays live for 30 days. The owner can extend it once, for another 30 days, while it’s live.
  • The link stops working at expiry. The hosted copy, its preview image and its information are then queued for deletion.
  • When the owner deletes a shared copy, Flipd stops the link and starts removal of the hosted PDF, its preview image and its information straight away.
  • Copies that people already downloaded are outside Flipd’s control.
  • Messaging and social apps can keep their own copy of a link preview. Flipd can’t remove those, so a preview may stay visible in an app for a while after the link ends.

Deleting and forgetting

Delete shared copy contacts Flipd’s server, stops the link and any embeds, and starts removal of the hosted PDF and its preview image. It needs the owner key kept in the browser that shared it. It doesn’t touch the PDF on your device.

Forget from this device only removes this browser’s record of the link and its owner key. It doesn’t contact the server, and the link keeps working until it expires. After forgetting, that browser can no longer extend or delete the link.

Links, embeds and downloads

Flipd links to other websites, such as akkiipc.com, which have their own policies. If you embed a flipbook on your website, your visitors’ browsers load it from Flipd, and your website’s own policies also apply.

Security

Connections to Flipd are encrypted with HTTPS, and owner keys are random and kept out of public responses. But no service is perfectly secure, and a shared link works for whoever has it. Share only what you’re comfortable sharing that way.

Children

Flipd isn’t designed for children and doesn’t ask for anyone’s age or identity. If you believe a child has shared something through Flipd that should be removed, please get in touch.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version will appear here with a new effective date. Questions or removal requests can be sent through akkiipc.com.
