Flipd

How it works

A little more life in every page.

Flipd is a free PDF flipbook viewer, share-link creator and page-turn video maker that runs in your browser. Open a PDF and its pages turn like paper. Share it with a link when you want to, or make a short video of it.

Who it’s for

Anyone whose work lives in pages: students sending a project, designers and photographers presenting a portfolio, architects walking someone through a deck, educators sharing a reader. It suits zines, lookbooks, brand guidelines and presentations, anything that was laid out to be read page by page.

View, share, create

01 · View

Choose or drop a PDF and it opens as a 3D flipbook. Turn pages, jump to one, search the text, browse thumbnails or the table of contents, and switch between light, dark and an isometric view.

02 · Share

Choose Share in the viewer to upload a copy and get a link to the flipbook, plus an embed code for your website.

03 · Create

Choose Create video to make a short teaser, a page-by-page video or a replay of your reading, in landscape, square, portrait or book shape.

What stays on your device

Opening a PDF happens entirely in your browser. So does creating a video: the frames are drawn and encoded on your device, and the finished file is saved straight to it. Neither uploads your PDF.

When a PDF is uploaded

Only when you choose Share and then confirm Upload and share. Flipd then uploads a copy of the PDF, with its filename and page count, and gives you a link.

  • The link is unlisted: Flipd doesn’t publish it or list it anywhere. But it isn’t password-protected, so anyone who has it can open and download the PDF.
  • When you create a share, the document filename may be visible to anyone with the link. Flipd doesn’t place it in search metadata or social-preview metadata.
  • Links stay live for 30 days. You can extend each link once, for another 30 days, while it’s still live.
  • The shared copy includes a small image of the first page, used as the preview when the link is pasted into apps that show one.
  • The link and any embeds stop working at expiry, and the hosted copy is then queued for deletion. Deleting a shared copy starts removal of Flipd’s hosted PDF and preview straight away.
  • Copies that people have already downloaded are outside Flipd’s control and can’t be recalled. Apps that showed a link preview may keep their own copy for a while.

Delete or forget?

Links you create are listed under Shared from this device, in the browser that created them. From there you have two different options.

Delete shared copy

  • Contacts Flipd’s server.
  • Stops the public link and any embeds.
  • Starts removal of Flipd’s hosted PDF and preview.
  • Leaves the PDF on your device as it is.
  • Can’t remove copies other people already downloaded.

Forget from this device

  • Removes this browser’s record of the link and its owner details.
  • Doesn’t contact the server.
  • Doesn’t stop or delete the public link.
  • The link keeps working until it expires or is deleted.
  • Without those owner details, this browser can no longer extend or delete it.

Clearing your browser’s data has the same effect as Forget for every link it created.

Limits

Opening a PDF
Up to 500 MiB. Password-protected PDFs can’t be opened.
Sharing
Up to 100 MiB per PDF. Links last 30 days, extendable once by 30 days.
Video
Up to 160 pages per export, up to 4K where your browser and device support it. Formats depend on your browser.
Accounts and watermarks
None. No sign-up, and nothing stamped on your pages.

Large documents and high-resolution videos need more memory. Creating a video needs a browser that can encode video on your device, such as a recent Chrome, Edge or Safari.

Questions

Do I need an account?

No. Flipd has no accounts. Links you create are managed from the browser that created them.

Is my PDF uploaded when I open it?

No. Opening a PDF and creating a video happen in your browser. A copy is uploaded only after you choose Upload and share.

Who can see a PDF I share?

Anyone who has the link. Links aren’t listed or published by Flipd, but they aren’t password-protected either.

How long does a link last?

30 days. You can extend each link once, for another 30 days, from the browser that created it.

What is the difference between Delete and Forget?

Delete shared copy asks Flipd’s server to stop the link and start removing the hosted PDF and its preview. Forget from this device only removes this browser’s record of the link; the link keeps working until it expires or is deleted.

Can I put a flipbook on my website?

Yes. After sharing, copy the embed code. The embed stops working when the link expires or is deleted.

Does Flipd add a watermark?

No. Shared flipbooks and videos carry no watermark.

Does Flipd cost anything?

No. Flipd is free to use.
